In this story, sixteen-year-old Maria (Ari) Carpenter miraculously survived an explosion. She discovers there is a supernatural world that she was unaware of and recruited to fight. This paranormal fantasy takes place in Australia. It is suitable for young adult readers.

THE FIRE UNSEEN is a thrilling read. It was full of espionage, suspense, and unexpected twists. Ari is a likable heroine. She is brave and smart. She goes through a lot in a short amount of time.

I enjoyed Andrew C Jaxson writing style. He did a nice job creating his setting. I like how he included history into the story. I will definitely continue following this series. I recommend this book to people who enjoy supernatural conspiracy novels. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Alexandrea Weis RN-CS, PhD, is a multi-award-winning author of over twenty-seven novels, a screenwriter, ICU Nurse, and historian who was born and raised in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Please welcome Seize author Alexandrea Weis to Diane’s Book Blog.

How long does it take you to write a book?  

It takes me about three weeks when I don’t have any other obligations with releases or other books to edit. Generally a month.

What inspired you to write your first book? 

My love of writing, and a short story from high school that I always wanted to turn into a book.

What is your favorite book that you wrote? 

My upcoming release in May, Realm. It is about the wife of Alexander the Great, Roxana. It is the story of a woman forgotten by history because she was a woman. I have wanted to write this tale since I first read about her at sixteen. 

Who or what inspired you to be a writer? 

Nothing inspired me; it was always there, my love for stories and creating them.

Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work? 

I have always loved Ernest Hemingway. His powerful use of words, and how he cans say so much using so little words.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

I am working on the next book after my YA thriller, Death by the River. It is called A River of Secrets and it is the continuing saga of the Devereaux family. It is due out in 2020.

Gail Z. Martin weaved an amazing tale with TANGLED WEB, the third book in the Deadly Curiosities series. Cassidy Kincaide and Teag Logan investigate several occurrences, including Zombie risings, the “grouch flu," and the Wild Hunt. This story takes place in contemporary Charleston, South Carolina.

Gail Z. Martin does an admiral job with her character development. I like how the characters’ supernatural powers play a role in the story, especially Teag’s weaver magic.

I always appreciate when stories include mythology. Therefore, I enjoyed the Norse Seior and Wild Hunt aspect of the book. I thought it was clever how the Nicholson family and Fox Hunt played a role in the story.

My family and I recently vacationed in Charleston. It was fun hearing about places that we saw in this story. It made many scenes easy for me to visualize.

Gail Z. Martin does a great job with her plot. There are some good life lessons in the novel. The story is skillfully executed. She combines numerous details for a thrilling outcome. I recommend this book to people that enjoy supernatural mysteries and urban fantasies. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Pastry chef, Vincenza DeLuca (Enza), wanders into the wrong place at the wrong time and observes a supernatural skirmish. She is pursued by Watchers, Rhys MacLeod, thinking she might be a threat. This contemporary PRN is suitable for adult audiences. It takes place in Chicago and Torth.

I like Enza. She has no idea that she is a Halfling. She discovers a lot in a short amount of time and handles it well. She has a significant power that makes her sought after. She is quickly liked by everyone she meets. I love that everyone devours her pasties. Rhys is a great guy. He feels guilty about a past relationship that put his teammates in danger. He is extremely protective of Enza. He is intelligent and brave. Enza and Rhys have great chemistry. They are good for each other. I found it amusing that Rhys is a computer expert and that Enza’s talent unintentionally interferes with electricity.

The support characters are great. I love that Brenin looks like Thor and is constantly ogled. Miranda is the perfect mentor for Enza. Antonio and Soren are interesting adversaries.

I’m from Chicago, so I love that the majority of this book takes place there. It is easy for me to visualize all the landmarks it the city.

I enjoyed the plot. There were interesting twists. I thought the Deserati demons searching for supernaturals with special abilities was appealing and believable. The story was well-written and exciting from start to finish. I would love to see a spin off series about the Chicago werewolves. I cannot wait to read what Sharon Kay comes up with next in the series.

Felix huffed. “Please. I would already be kissing my girl and telling her how beautiful she is—and that’s before I took her for a moonlit stroll. Totally working my romantic A game from start to finish. Which I intend to do the second we sneak into the compound and meet up with her. So, if you’ll excuse me, my lady awaits.”
He snapped up his hand in a cheeky salute, then whirled around and started stomping through the woods again, making almost as much noise as he had before. He might have put away his sword so that he wasn’t hacking through the bushes anymore, but he started muttering instead. Felix wasn’t completely happy unless his mouth was going a hundred words a minute, even if he was only talking to himself.

I sighed. “I don’t know whether to strangle him or admire his confidence.”

Hailey Edwards is off to an incredible start with Dead in the Water the first book in the Gemini Series. Earthen Conclave member, Agent Camille Ellis, is sent to investigate a serial murder of a supernatural child. The most-recent victim’s brother, Cord Graeson, Beta of the Georgia Warg Pack, becomes involved with the case to seek justice for his sister.

I like Camille. She is a Gemini, a type of Fae that is born twins. They can classify any Fae after a touch. They can also temporarily absorb the best qualities of other Fae. My heart went out to Camille for the loss of her twin. My heart also went out to Cord for the loss of his sister. Camille and Cord have an intense relationship that keeps the story interesting.

I love that Thierry and Shaw from Hailey Edwards’ Black Dog series make an appearance in this story.

I really enjoyed the plot. It was full of mystery and interesting twists. There was controversy, hidden agenda, and lots of action. I loved the ending and cannot wait for the next book. If you like Hailey Edwards’ Black Dog Series, you will definitely want to check out Dead in the Water.
